Sharing a reflection... Transfiguration of the Lord

Good morning, friends!

Today, 6th August, is the feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, a feast i like most. As such, let me try to reflect on the readings: Dan 7:9-10,13-14/ 2Pet 1:16-19 and Mk 9:2-10.

The book of Daniel is of the nature of 'theophanic' literature and needs to be taken that way only. It speaks of the Son of man receiving dominion, glory and kingship.

The responsorial Psalm 97 says that Justice and judgment are the foundation of his throne and before him all the earth and heavens proclaim his justice...

Peter in his second letter says that they didn't follow cleverly devised myths but those of which they were eye witnesses. And their witness would be like a lamp shining in the dark place until day dawns and the morning star rises in our hearts.

In the gospel Mark narrates another theophany Peter, James and John had at the mountain when Jesus took the three alone. As the clouds casting a shadow over Elijah appearing with Moses there came a voice, 'this is my beloved Son, listen to him.' The narrative ends with Jesus charging them not to relate what they had seen to anyone!

Transfiguration is transformation, the result of conversion which is the opening call of Jesus in Mark 1:15, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent, and believe in the gospel.” The call to perfection in Matthew 5:48, "You, therefore, must be perfect, as your heavenly father is perfect." implies this.

And Jesus' charge at the end is a clear message that faith has to be out of personal experience and conviction and not from mere hearsay. And is not the very ministry of preaching stands questioned here?

Have a great day.

Thanks.
